Are any persons interested in sponsoring software development for free Gita JSON files API hosted on free-tier GitHub Pages?
It recently struck me that I should offer non-commercial, service to society type, software development solutions at deeply discounted rates but which will be lower priority work as compared to regular commercial work. If there are persons who are interesed in patronizing such work then I am now in a position to provide such software solutions. If things work out well, both the sponsor(s)/patron(s) and I will get the satisfaction of contributing to such service to society work.
But dear reader, please don't feel obliged in any way to sponsor such work. Sponsor(s) should contact me in this regard, only if they are really interested in patronizing such service to society type work.
I have to mention that I am doing this in a spiritually detached way. So if no sponsor(s) are interested - no problem at all. The important thing for me is to make the offer. Then I feel I have done my bit.
As an example of such projects, I am considering software development work for a static Gita JSON files API hosted on GitHub Pages with very generous free-tier, whose design I have already published, for free, on a blog post. Note that this is a read-only, HTTP-accessible JSON data service.
The key features of this offering are:
- I will do the work at deeply discounted rates.
- The work will be done in small steps of around 20 man-hours each.
- The sponsor initially needs to only show willingness to pay for the next ~20 man-hours step. Each such step could have different sponsors. So a sponsor will be showing willingness to pay only for one ~20 man-hours step.
- The sponsor may be an individual, a group of individuals or an organization.
- I will try hard for each ~20 man-hours step to result in a concrete, usable increment (for example: dataset preparation, API structure, documentation, or deployment setup). But it may not be possible for each such step.
- After each ~20 man-hours step, I will share the completed work with the sponsor after which he/she may pay me.
- I will be happy to publish the name of the sponsor(s) in the project.
- I will be doing this work at lower priority than other regular commercial work.
- But once I take up an ~20 man-hours step of work, I shall endeavour to complete it within reasonable time of say two to three weeks. Note that I do software development project work only part-time, usually up to 20 hours a week.
- I prefer to publish the work as open source, say on GitHub with an open source MIT license. This enables the work to be improved and maintained by others who are interested, and will not be dependent on me. For more on open source software, please see wiki page for it.
- If the sponsor would prefer to not publish it as open source software but still make the final software solution free for anybody to use, I am willing to consider such work too at deeply discounted rates, based on discussion with the sponsor.
- Hopefully, at the end of such project work, we will have a free to use software which will do some free service to society, and thereby provide satisfaction that comes from service to society, to both the sponsor(s) and me.
- I shall communicate any known limitations of such work like dependency on availability of GitHub Pages free-tier in future and alternatives for it, separately with the sponsor(s).
Interested persons may please contact me over email at riyer02@gmail.com .
Once the static Gita JSON files API hosted on GitHub Pages with very generous free-tier work is done, as a follow-up project on same sponsorship basis (at deeply discounted rates), I would like to take up updating my free and open-source Gita web app. This Gita web app currently has limited functionality due to its regular backend not being available. Using this static Gita JSON files API hosted on GitHub Pages will restore regular functionality to the free Gita web app. For more, see my related post.
